A new book on the shelves which really catches the eye is The World According to Warren by newcomers Craig Silvey with illustrations by Sonia Martinez. This is a beautifully presented, very stylish picture book from Fremantle Arts Centre Press.
Warren is a guide dog with attitude and a theatrical bent. His musings begin from his winged armchair with a letter to the reader and conclude with the setting sun by the seashore. Illustrations are extraordinary, richly detailed, they complement and extend the humour and the mystery of the narrative.
Shaun Tan's recommendation on the dust jacket is an indication of what to expect from these remarkable new collaborators
"Better than something of equivalent value. THE BEST PICTURE BOOK I'VE SEEN ...this morning"
Great book don't miss it.

Our Picture Book of the Month for July is Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley an endearing story of the friendship between two very different characters. Aaron Blabey's illustrations have a quirky vibrancy which perfectly reflect his simple text.
During the week I am looking forward to reading The Night of the Burning by Linda Press Wulf, new to our teen section and Alexandra Adornetto's The Shadow Thief which is on our younger readers' shelves.
Tomorrow evening we welcome Wendy Orr to the Riverbend deck where she will talk about Nim at Sea and the filming of Nim's Island, the first book in this series.
We're all still rather delighted here that Meg Rosoff, a Riverbend guest in late May, is the 2007 recipient of the Carnegie Medal for Just in Case.
Have a good week, particularly if you are still on holidays. Enjoy the time to read.
